Beauty of Dong Costumes — Zhang Guoyun Ethnic Art Research Exhibition

Professor Guoyun Zhang, Design Academy of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, has devoted the past decade to the research of Dong ethnic costume art in regions such as Guangxi, Hunan, and Guizhou provinces. Simultaneously, she has also been committed to innovatively transforming traditional clothing elements into contemporary fashion design, and has achieved outstanding academic and artistic accomplishments. This exhibition serves as a comprehensive presentation and showcase of Professor Zhang's years of research achievements, which is organised into three parts: documentary materials, field investigations, and innovative transformation.

The first part showcases the academic results of her in-depth investigations and research in rural areas over the years, including analyses of clothing materials, style structures, and decorative patterns of different Dong ethnic subgroups. The second part displays samples of Dong women's clothing and accessories, which she collected during her field investigations. The third part exhibits her innovative designs of exploratory transformation into modern clothing based on her research, featuring three series of fashion design works. This exhibition, encompassing academic documentation, physical samples, and innovative fashion designs, can be regarded as a vivid and multidimensional case of an artist immersing herself in the study of ethnic art and in the practical transformation of its value.
