Introduction | 展覽介紹
Ours is a material world in the truest, most basic sense – one in which we literally weave and wear textiles as a layer of protection from natural elements and also as a means of comfort, identity and self-expression. Earth's elements are our raw materials – harvested then manipulated and finally transformed into objects. Often the transformational process gets embedded into the material like a memory and slowly reveals its maker's hands, spirit and mind. Fiber is one of the most pliable materials and yet has a remarkable ability to hold permanence. Cloth is a record of history in many ways – be it through wear and tear, dyeing and fading, or even embroidery. This exhibition looks at a horizon of works that tell a story of change beneath the surface.
