Introduction | 展覽介紹
The pieces in this exhibition speak to the beauty of the interaction between opposites. In each piece, one feeling is dominant, but there is an element of another. In pain, there is beauty. In growth, there are things that are discarded. In passion there is shame. Communication, hearts and relationships are broken, then mended. And the mending, like a scar, becomes evidence of torments past and the dream to heal.
All of the works in this exhibition were created with the help of Oaxacan artisans. Each artisan, each technique lends itself to specific ways of creating imagery or mood. Artwork was created and sent to the artists who often had ideas of their own to add to the concept. After the weaving or embroidery was complete, the work returned to my studio, where I dyed, painted, cut, stitched and embellished the pieces in response. Though I have been the director and conductor of the process, the final works are a chorus of all of our voices.
